Do you charge more than stores in Seattle or Tacoma?
No -- just because you are buying on the island doesn't mean you have to pay more!  Vashon Island Music is competitive with other independent music sellers both for CDs and instruments/accessories. You can feel good about supporting a local business without feeling bad about paying lots more. Can you find some of this stuff for less at a big chain store? Probably... but there are plenty of things at Vashon Island Music you'd NEVER find at Walmart!

What happened to Screaming Mimi's, SoulFire, and Caprisi? Shawn and Stacy sold their shop back in November 2004 to allow more time for family and other interests. Dave sold us the SoulFire inventory a few months later. The owners of Caprisi decided to specialize in watch repair, then moved to Portland. All these shops and owners have been helpful and supportive of Vashon Island Music.

Can I order a CD (or DVD, LP, sheet music, instrument, etc.)? Definitely! The shop is too small to hold everything we'd like, but we have access to lots of distributors and can track down and order just about anything.

What's up with all the Ukuleles? I'm not sure why, but in the past few months we've sold more ukuleles than anywhere outside of Hawaii. Their popularity is probably linked to them being so fun to play, inexpensive, and portable - perfect for ferry lines or the beach. Maybe it's just an island thing.

Is that a picture of your car?  No, that's Janis Joplin's Porsche painted by Kate Lake and featured in her book Zero to 50. (But yes, that is my TT parked out front.)
